We are indeed privileged to have a legacy of over 50 years of tailoring of menswear. This legacy belongs to our founder Mr. Akbar Shahpurwala, who has created an indelible mark in the world of fashion and garment creation.

OUTFIT DESIGN

Mr. Akbar Shahpurwala has been the recipient of the National Award for Costume Design. He has also dressed India’s top leaders for decades and counting.

He has also launched in-house labels such as Akbar Sports and Aqis, engineered to provide comfort, style and fit in the world of readymades.

1960

Joined Family Shop named Elegant

1973

Kachins was launched. Designed for his first film- Mr Rishi Kapoor’s clothes for Bobby

1991

National award for Best Film Costumes for ‘Lamhe’

1994

Started Gabbana and brought well known Italian brands to India. Gabbana made fine Italian Tailoring accessible here in India.

1995

Launched inhouse brands, British Khakis and Aqis.

2003

Opened the 2nd Gabbana Store in Khar, Mumbai

2009

Launched ready to wear apparel under brands Akbar and Akbar Sports.

2022

Relocating Mahalaxmi store to Hughes road in sep'22
